Magiplast-Dur is an innovative resin for model making and dioramas
Most modelers work with polyurethane resins or synthetic plaster for building and dioramas. Plaster is fragile, not precise and takes a long time to dry. Polyurethane would be ideal, but it is expensive and toxic. Paints do not hold up well and it is difficult to obtain large variations in thickness. The ideal resin would be an inexpensive, non-toxic polyurethane that can be applied to all plastics, wood, glass and metal and to which water-based paints can be applied without difficulty. This resin exists. It is called Magiplast-Dur.
Main characteristics:
- It is ideal for moulding in silicone shapes, even for large thicknesses. It consists of two components (powder + liquid). The desired fluidity can be adjusted.
- Harder than plaster, reflecting details very accurately thanks to its wetting power, it can be worked even before it has polymerized without bursting
- It adheres to almost all materials (also polystyrene and Styrodur) and is also suitable for making putty by adding a thickener.
- It is fluid and wetting enough to limit the adhesion of bubbles on the walls of silicone mouldings. If you have a vacuum pump, de-bubbling produces little foam.
- For large volumes, polystyrene beads can be used to reduce cost and increase rigidity.
- Pot life is 20 minutes and full hardness is achieved after 24 hours
- After 1 hour, it can be worked and painted quickly
- No odour, no health impact
- Tools can be rinsed with water
- The resin has a long shelf life
- It does not burn
